Singing bowls are amazing meditation instruments!
I remember my first experience with singing bowls. I first heard one on a trip to Beautiful Tibet on my way back from Myanmar. I was in a busy marketplace and could hear a soothing sound coming from the east. I followed the sounds into a Buddhist temple where a monk was playing a beautiful large singing bowl with hand written inscriptions on the sides. The music was relaxing and put me in a peaceful mindset. But I was younger at the time, and didn't listen closely have the time to get one. Fast forward 10 years I came across a singing bowl in a antique shop in Brooklyn and wow the sound was transformational! Astonishingly pure, calming and almost healing. I decided to write a blog and start my own singing bowl craft house in Nepal to ship to people all over the world. I feel the bowls are truly amazing meditation instruments that should be shared globally.
So how do singing bowls work?
For the net few years I researched singing bowls extensively. I learned when struck, singing bowls are believed to vibrate at what is recognized as the frequency of perfection, otherwise known as the Sanskrit mantra “OM". When Singing Bowls entrain with our brainwaves to create a sympathetic response with the perfect vibration of “OM”, then the healing process has begun. The harmonic resonance of the bowls literally pull us out of disharmony and disease and into a healthy natural state of mind, body and spirit. Tibetan Singing Bowls have been used for approximately 2,500 years to stimulate alpha brainwaves for wellness, relaxation, chakra balance, alternative medicine, mindfulness and meditation purposes.
How can you actually use this?
There are real reasons Singing Bowls have been used for centuries. The bowls create a range of sounds in alpha wave frequency (8-12hz) which invoke a deep state of relaxation which naturally assists in meditation, the pathway to enlightenment in Tibetan Buddhist cultures. The range of sounds also restore the normal vibratory frequencies of diseased and out-of-harmony parts of the mind and body. Their alternate purpose is to restore vibratory frequencies of the body, mind, and soul that are out-of-harmony and diseased. The sounds they emit work as a type of energy medicine that has been known to balance chakras, heal pain, depression, and stress disorders (read more at bottom). Nowadays the bowls are also used for yoga, reiki and deep relaxation/stress relief reasons.
